It's been almost 7 months and things are going well - I measure that by the number of essential services I no longer have to stress over because I've finally either nailed the process (ie, can key ahead to the service I want instead of having to listen to the insane number of steps it takes to get through to 'billing') or in the case of more personal services, such as getting my hair done in such a way that I don't look like Debbie Harry stepping out of the 80's. So the good news is, I've found a wonderful hairdresser who does a sensational job for half the price of any other hairdresser here and I don't have to step foot outside my apartment! Nina lives here at Costa Rhu, my condo building and was a former colourist for Tony & Guy in London. It's pure bliss knowing that I'm going to look normal afterwards. Trust me, that was not the case for the first couple of months here. I came very close to buying a ticket back to Sydney just to get my hair fixed! I know there are far more serious issues in the world, but this was on a personal level, extremely traumatic!! Problem solved... moving on...
Ziek turned 14 today. Thankfully he is well (now) and enjoying life in Singapore. I've been hopeless in updating my blog since I arrived but to fill you in, poor Ziek didn't arrive in very good nic at all. Infact, he'd had a diabetic seizure during the flight and much to my horror was unconscious on arrival. Amazingly his diabetes had decided to reverse itself the day of the flight. Pete the Vet had predicted this would happen - the reversal, not the timing! Consequently he is no longer diabetic which I'm truly grateful for but I could have done without the drama of getting to that point - particularly as I was feeling guilty anyway for dragging him all the way to Singapore! Since then, he did succumb to the flu which turned into an upper respiratory tract infection (yes, apparently cats get them too!). He was so ill he couldn't drink or eat so it was back to the vet for another week of treatment! By this stage, I thought it more practical just to give the vet my credit card permanently so I could run a tab! Poor Boo!! Fortunately he's great now and has probably taken to Singapore life and weather better than I. He has his own maid, Femi, who visits twice a day when I'm away for feeding and belly rub duties so needless to say he adores her!
I do miss Australia but I have had no shortage of visitors averaging one per month since I arrived so my mission is always to find new and interesting places to go - particularly restaurants, cafes and cocktail bars! I think my repertoire now exceeds that of most locals.
The ice luge you see in the photo was the 'talking point' of a bbq I went to recently. The objective being ofcourse that the person standing at the bottom of the luge has to capture as much of the Vodka that is sent catapulting down towards your open mouth without spilling or choking on it as the case may be...an interesting ice breaker...no pun intended!
